Peritoneal dialysis is another type of dialysis used to remove waste products and excess fluids from the blood when the kidneys are unable to do so effectively. In peritoneal dialysis, the lining of the abdomen, called the peritoneum, acts as a natural filter. During the procedure, a special fluid called dialysate is introduced into the peritoneal cavity through a catheter.
